Receptionist

In a healthcare setting, a receptionist is responsible for a number of administrative tasks. From handling sensitive documents to speaking directly with patients, receptionists must have a strong sense of organization, communication skills, and the ability to multitask. Whether in a hospital or private healthcare facility, receptionists interact with both patients and staff to schedule visits, prepare patient files, and collect payments. Furthermore, receptionists must maintain an organized waiting area and perform a variety of clerical tasks when necessary. 

Job Responsibilities

  • Update and organize patient files 
  • Assist with scheduling patient visits
  • Prepare billing statements 
  • Receive patient payments 
  • Print, fax, and scan documents
  • Verify insurance coverage 
  • Authorize referrals 
  • Organize and distribute facility mail 

Qualifications and Skills 

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience 
  • 1+ years of experience in a healthcare facility preferred 
  • Proficiency with word processing software
